This is a concept I developed for the IMPAKT festival in Utrecht. It is an addition to their exhibition in the city and it is about microbes. A big temple made of fungal material (mycelium) is the place were my exhibition takes place. The temple has big round stained glass windows, with microbes pictured. The invisible microbes are made visible and are displayed like the gods of the temple. On the ceiling their is a big round mirror. When the visitors look up they see themselves small in that mirror, like microbes. The round mirror and shape of the temple are a reference to the pantheon in Rome. Inside the temple there is also a small ritual, consisting of spitting on saliva-powered microbed that provide the electricity for lights on the wall. The whole concept is about making the nature that surrounds us important and showing ourselves as a small tiny part in the whole.
